OK, so I admit it, I like many people suffer from being an information Junkie resulting in Information Overload at times. BLEEP, BLOOP, BLEEP – sorry that does not compute my mind says, “here’s some more information overload”. It doesn’t make sense, yet it makes perfect sense why it’s happening and why the results are staggering.

Welcome to the world of an information junkie. A world where different thoughts of knowledge tend to collide at warp speed. “Back to absorbing more Material” my mind says, while my body screams to take a break. It’s not all as bad as you think as we are about find out in this post.

Is it no wonder where we live in a world where everyone does the blackberry prayer at supper and spend more time in FaceBook than with real people? Well, technology does have it’s place and so does all the knowledge we absorb on a daily basis. We have literally become a generation of people with attention deficit disorder. It’s no longer a kid’s affliction; adults can have it just as bad.

Here’s a tidbit of information for you. Most people think multi-tasking or doing more than a few things at once actually makes them more productive. Not to one group of researchers.

In fact, there was a study performed that actually showed that those who multi-tasked often actually helped cause their IQ to go down in that time period! “Hmmm”, interesting I hear you say. There is real hope for many of us though. If we just concentrate on what really matters, we can become 300% and higher more productive and value driven (my non-scientific estimate).

My Story

I’ve always been obsessed with learning. I really do enjoy it and have been learning how to do this and that for many years. I’m literally bombarded with information daily in the form of books, Cds, webinars, teleseminars, seminars, information products, whitepapers, handouts, self study material, tv, technology and the list goes on and on.

No wonder people as myself struggle with information overload. One thing really opened my mind and eyes to one thing – I spend way too much time learning and not enough time implementing. I determined in my 2011 Goals for this year that I would grab the bull by the horns in setting my achievable and financial goals for 2011. This is the year I’ve determined to do less actual absorbing of material and instead doing “BIG” things this year. Things that others may not even be aware I’m capable of completing. Stay Tuned!

The One Thing That Will Set You Apart!

In backtracking and really taking a reflective look on my own life, I’ve determined that you need to have the single most important trait to thrive and succeed. This principle is nothing other than FOCUS! There you have it, I have literally saved you thousands of dollars on self help, personal finance and personal development study. Forget information overload and overwhelming yourself.

Instead, take some action and baby steps one day at a time in what you would like to achieve. If you’ve been reading the Financially Elite Blog for any length of time, you know that I’m passionate about Financial Freedom.

What’s your passion or what I call your biggest takeaway in Life? It’s important, pause right here for a minute. What really gets your blood pumping or making you jump up 30 minutes early in the morning? If you don’t know, you have to dig deeper. If you don’t know what your passion is or could be, you are on the hamster wheel. Get off the hamster marathon and you can see life from a whole new angle.

Another thing, stop setting such ridiculous and hefty goals for your life. I know some people that haven’t made six figures in a year yet they want to be a multi-millionaire in a year. Not saying that it’s not possible, but set real achievable goals for your life. A stretch goal out of your comfort zone may simply be increasing income by 20-25% for the year. Start with that small type of a goal and hit it. You’ll be surprised just how possible more beefy goals will be to actually reach by hitting smaller goals first.

Rehab for the Recovering Information Junkie

Just like myself, if you are an information junkie, you need to start on your road to recovery. Learn some serious time management and if you must learn something new, put a time limit on it. Not only should you put a time limit on non-action tasks, but also make it part of learning time and separate out your productive time to get more done. Information Overload is a real problem and it actually cripples many out there from taking action because they don’t have the wherewithal to know how to even take the first step.

For example, one way of taking steps to minimize information overload, was for me to unsubscribe from anything in my inbox that doesn’t bring at least some value into my life. It means, I might have to take some sort of personal action to complete a task that I’ve been putting off instead of picking up another learning material. You seriously already have all you need to know about becoming successful. I guarantee if I interviewed you about what it takes to be successful, you will give me your version of the success path you would take.

Real Life Examples of Getting Off the Information ‘Drug’

Understand that knowledge is power, yet too much knowledge is a crippling disease.

Limit your time to information learning and spend more time on the ‘Doing’ part. It’s all about the mechanics of getting things done.

FOCUS, FOCUS and FOCUS. Did I say FOCUS?

Know that the internet is a tool, it shouldn’t be spent playing 5 hours of ‘Farmville’ a day! What’s your pet peeve on this?

Form a Mastermind or get a Financial Mentor instead to give you real life leverage over other methods of ‘theory’ learning.

Stop going from learning one ‘Shiny’ product to the other and not being a master at any one thing. This is a huge problem in the make money online and other spaces.

Of course, you may want to add your own ideas above as it’s only a guide.

Now What?

So you’re a recovering information addict just like me, so what now? Well, for starters, in my case I want to make every minute of productivity count and cut time consuming ‘learning’ activities to a minimum. To ‘cut the fat’ per say. Let’s say I want to write a book and I’ve gathered all the resources and research to get it done.

Well, being that I really wanted to get this done it is a lot more fruitful for me to spend about 20% action to gain 80% of the results. This is known as the 80 20 rule and you apply to yourself as well. This may mean that I spend 20 minutes on research and learning and the majority of my time doing the activities that will help get my book published.

To give you a real life of getting things done, I just completed my Minutes to Millionaire Mindset audio guide and I did it less than a week. This also wasn’t me working on it full time as well, just the most productive hours here and there and outsourcing what I really needed in terms of graphics, other people’s expertise on how to complete processes and what not.

I’ve been taking the negatives of being an information junkie, gaining some leverage and using what I’ve learned to create even more leverage. It makes more sense implementing than listening to me rant on it. Again, more about the mechanics of doing and less about spending all your time learning.

Here’s a great video on just what the dangers of information overload may be doing in your own life:

YouTube: Information Overload and Getting Organized

Couldn’t have explained it better myself, if you don’t know why information overload is so dangerous to getting what you want done, then please re-read this blog post.

I’ve given you some real gold nuggets in this post and why too much information will simply paralyze you. We’ve talked about how this abundance of learning material simply can lead to information overload.

I’ve really hit on the point of having that complete Focus and taking massive action that you need to become more valuable and get more productivity in your life. Productivity for things worthwhile can build serious value, serious value can make you wealthy and live a life of your dreams.

Today, I want to really break down and decipher just what the 80 20 Rule can mean to you when it’s used properly and gain much needed leverage for your results.

I just want to say that there comes a time in everyone’s life when they really need to take stock of what works for them. Not only that, but you need to ask yourself, “When am I most productive” or “When Am I most Profitable?” or “What Really Works for Me?”

The 80 20 Rule or more commonly known as Pareto’s Principle states that, “for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. “ Let’s break it down even more – ‘80% of the effects’ in the last statement can be translated as 80% of the results and ‘20% of the causes’ is 20% of the actual work performed. This goes hand in hand with my theory that you perform the harder work to a larger degree to capitalize on the bigger piece of the pie.

In more simple terms, let’s say you have a highly profitable business. In that business, the 80 20 rule could dictate that 80% of your revenue comes from just 20% of your clients. This could mean that you may have to ‘fire’ or make more profit from your much less unprofitable clientele. It’s a golden ticket if you think about it. If you take the time and really interpret where the 80 20 rule can work for you, it will really make a world of difference for more return vs. less work put in.

I’m a big follower, like millions of people for Tim Ferris and his 4 hour work week book and lifestyle design. Tim in his daily living seems to employ everything positive about living the ultimate outsourced lifestyle that basically is like the 80 20 rule on steroids. If you haven’t yet read this book, I really recommend it as it will simply do away the notion that you must work harder to see more results. Really and truly, the 80 20 rule is about living your life abundantly with less work if you would like to view it that way as well.

I also came across a wonderful post detailing how the 80 20 rule can really transform your life when put to good use. In Yaro Starak’s, blog post, ‘What Is The 80/20 Rule And Why It Will Change Your Life ‘, he really does a good job in defining the Pareto principle and Yaro is living proof of what you can accomplish when you put this principle to the best possible use within your own life. It’s all about leveraging out what can be outsourced to others in terms of mundane tasks in order to get the greatest result with less effort from yourself.

A Real Life Example

To give you an even more real life example, take for instance you do a lot of routine things yourself. Let’s just say that your time for the sake of this example could be worth $100 per hour when you are most productive. Also, let’s pretend you have a leaky roof and decide to attempt to fix it yourself. If you were to attempt to fix this leak, it could take you let’s say 2 hours to repair (or $200 of your time).

Now, on the other hand, if you employed the 80 20 rule and hire out an experienced roofer to perform the repair. If he fixes your roof for $60 and it was done in an hour, effectively he saved you $140 of your time not spent and in less time ($200 from above – doing it ourself and subtract $60 for the professional repair done in 1 hours time). Do you see exactly why you should be getting a lot more excited about employing this principle within your daily life?

How I Will Employ the Pareto Principle

I personally have started putting this principle in place in many areas of my life and seeing a lot more results with a lot less effort put out. The power thing about the 80 20 rule is that you are banking on the expertise of others – Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, so to speak. If it takes me a lot longer to learn something when I could get a service person or a professional to do the task lickety split, it’s well worth going ahead and getting it that way.

I use the Pareto principle because I know that it will get me eventually to the goal of being 100% financially free through persistence.

Don’t Be A Control Freak

The biggest people that tend to lose out in not reaping the rewards of the Pareto Principle are those that want to always do it their way or the highway. These personality types usually end up doing mundane and time intensive tasks themselves and get minimal return on investment of time, effort and other resources spent. Although they may enjoy some ok results, it would have been far more beneficial to put the Pareto principle to work.

Don’t just do time sucking tasks for the sense of doing them. Have a purpose behind every thing you do and know how will capitalize on the result by using the 80 20 rule to your full advantage.

Here’s a quick snapshot of why you should implement the Pareto Principle:

Better and more efficient use of your time

A better business strategy if you are an entrepreneur

A more systemized approach

The best trade off for effort vs. greater results

Better ROI in terms of time and profit

Improved Lifestyle because of better choices

Leaving the specialized work to the professionals, so you can be more productive

These are just a few ways on how you could this strategy work for you. Put it in place and measure your results, I know you will be impressed with the improved result.

Fresh off a fantastic and awe inspiring trip to the French Polynesian Islands, it really perpetuated me to write a post about really digging deep and finding that true intrinsic value from within. So, just what is intrinsic value and how do we define it for ourselves?

According to one Wikipedia entry, “An intrinsic theory of value (also called theory of objective value) is any theory of value in economics which holds that the value of an object, good or service, is intrinsic or contained in the item itself. Most such theories look to the process of producing an item, and the costs involved in that process, as a measure of the item’s intrinsic value.” With that gripping intro to intrinsic value, how can we break it down even further and take almost a bird’s eye view of determining just how intrinsic value in our lives really benefits others?

By helping others, we end up with other realized benefits such as true happiness and joy as well as other rewards. For example, if I help someone get out of debt and they find true Financial Freedom, a few things have just happened: First, I have directly benefited that person to take them out of the misery of debt and start building real wealth, not only that but possibly also permanently altered how they deal with their finances. Second, a direct benefit to me might be gaining a positive follower that respects my methods and propels me to a more expert status on what I love to talk about.

See how that works? Intrinsic value does not have to be measured in dollars and cents, but instead is the true value of exactly what gets delivered. It’s a powerful concept really, especially when you start to realize your intrinsic values from being invoked from within. The most intriguing thing about having intrinsic values is that they are so much people out there that believe that they have nothing of value to offer others. It’s really a mindset of lack that many people tend to manifest and nurture, which in time, actually ends up harming them in some sort of way. The real truth of the matter is everyone has something to offer of value. I can think back to a story of a person born with no arms yet was able to learn to paint magnificent and valuable painting solely using their feet. Now, that is what I call invoking the intrinsic value from within one’s self!

Look to powerful people such as Sir Richard Branson of Virgin fame. This guy absolutely inspires people from all walks of life and is known to be one of the most influential billionaires today. Not only does he talk about not being afraid of trying new things and getting out of your comfort zone constantly, but he does it with such a charisma that is worth taking notes on. Bringing massive value to huge audiences is what this guy is about making his Fleet of Virgin products and services a household name, all at an age when most people look to living a sedentary life. The good news is that you don’t have to emulate this type of success and value. Being a serious influence and bring value to those you come into contact daily and those within your constant contact, this is how you build a real presence of value to others. I’m telling you, if you help others, they will usually reciprocate the favor. There, that’s one big secret for free. You’re very welcome.

Why not take a 15-30 day challenge to see just how much value you can bring to others. Here a few different suggestions you could try out:

It could be enhancing your value to employers if you are full employed

Building an incredible brand if you are an entrepreneur

Helping others with your expertise where they may lack experience

Come up with a new product or service to introduce to your market

Work with Charities or other Non-Charitables for the greater good

Improve on yourself with ongoing education or learn a new valuable life skill

Be a guest speaker for a worthwhile cause

Teach others how to see their own intrinsic values

Of course, these are just a few of the many things you could try in your own personal challenge. Remember, they are no real rules and you can allow your conscience to be your guide. The real point of the matter is to get in tune with yourself to see where you really shine and show where your intrinsic values actually lie. How many people out there actually have no real idea of what they are really worth? Answer: Much more than I or you would like to think about. So, take this opportunity to see just what makes a better you.

I’ve really done my best to explain the intrinsic value of self as opposed to stocks and stock options and other types of intrinsic values and I hope it makes perfect sense to determine just why finding one’s intrinsic values will ultimately lead to a more interesting and fulfilling life. It’s not just a good idea as you really want to start building relationship with others. Remember, no man is an island and little things can make the most interesting cause and effects. It’s a little like a ‘butterfly effect’ where one little change in one part of the world makes a little change of equal proportion elsewhere. Our cumulative changes and contributions in the world matter. It’s what makes the human race one of the most interesting and dynamic life forms on our planet.

P.S. as I write this post, Japan has been hit by the largest earthquake in its history (8.9 on scale of 10), now is the time for each one of us to show our cumulative intrinsic value by supporting their rebuilding effort and even saying somewhat of a prayer for that country

What intrinsic values do you believe you possess? Will you be taking me up in the 15-30 day challenge mentioned above? Would love to hear your feedback, join me in the discussion by commenting on this post.

Everyone would like to be worry free when it comes to their finances. Everyone would like to be able to have the money for those things that they might want instead of just being to get the things that they have to have. What is the best way for easy Financial Freedom?

Arriving at the point in life where you won’t have to worry about having enough money means you are going to have to work it. Starting as early as possible in learning the best way to manage money is the key to having a stress free middle age life and for those golden years later in life as well. Everyone’s goal should be to have a retirement that they can look forward instead of dreading those years because of the lack of money saved for it.

You should start now in taking out a half hour of every day to think about your finances. You don’t have to make it a stressful chore, but just think about your present situation on a daily basis for a few minutes. Think about the ways that you can make it better and make it worthwhile for the later years in your life. If you make yourself focus on money and how to correctly manage it every day, then you are going to likely be more mindful of what you are doing wrong that can cause monetary squander.

Taking a little time every day to view and think about your money can pay off because you are going to be more aware of what you have been doing with your money. You may be surprised at the number of people who couldn’t tell you what they spent their entire paycheck on a few weeks back. This is the very reason a budget planner is a wise investment. All you need is a notebook of paper and a pen to write down each day’s expenses. Make sure that in that half hour you view these expenses and make the decisions of whether or not they were smart or not so smart spends.

Taking the time to concentrate on achieving easy Financial Freedom is the only surefire way to have it aside from winning the lottery of millions. Even those who have tons money can end up broke if they are not making sure they are aware of their spending habits. It is easier to lose money by careless spending than it it is by paying huge bills and living expenses. When someone is careless with their money, they are usually not taking care to keep up with how much they have either.

Make sure that you make it a point to sit down and figure your finance for at least 30 minutes a day. During this time, you should think about your heaviest financial burdens and ways to lighten them You should think about ways that you can stay out of debt. You should also make sure that you write down everything that you think of and refer back to your notes during those times you have extra money. You can have easy Financial Freedom when you take the time to pay close attention to your money.

Recently, it has been noted the great importance and sheer power of our human brain. Experiment after experiment has shown that what we think about most, is what our subconscious minds help us to achieve by working towards this thought pattern process. In this case, it would be helpful to note that it would be most beneficial for us to dwell on those things that are most positive and in our favor.

These experiments have dealt with health issues mostly as the results can be viewed easily. Most people have heard of instances where patients have been given sugar pills and have recovered. It’s also known as the placebo effect. It is the power of the brain that makes people believe that sugar pills have cured them

Use your brain to help you reach your goals and attain the success that you have always wished for yourself. Keep your vision central in your memory, which is why vision boards are so useful to have, and believe that they can be attained. In fact is only a matter of time as to when you will reach your goals.

Many top sports people and business high achievers have shared their success stories. One of the strong points they usually make is that they believed they could do it. Our own success stories tend to fall apart at the first or second major hurdle. This happens because we do not believe that we can achieve the big dreams.

If you believe that you don’t have green fingers and that every pot plant you are given will die because of you, it would be pointless for you to start a career in gardening. That is not because you would not make a great gardener. It’s because you believe you kill all plants.

Believing that if you are disabled means you can’t swim competitively then that is what will stop you from taking up the sport of swimming. It’s not your disability. You just need to check Natalie du Toit’s story to understand what handicaps people overcome to achieve their dreams.

They carry on with their dreams regardless because they believe that they can do it. Natalie du Toit lost a leg in a motoring accident. She entered an able bodied event in the Olympics in Beijing. She was annoyed with herself because she only came sixteenth.

Most of us would never consider attempting what she has done. We would give up. Lost a leg, well there went all hope of swimming competitively would be our thinking. Yet there are sports people who achieve amazing feats by sheer determination and total self-belief.

You might consider that it will be impossible for you to believe in yourself. After all you have had nothing but disappointments in your life. You have never reached any of your goals and you feel a total failure in everything you do.

Yet self-belief can be learnt. It can become a habit. It is something that only requires an attitude adjustment. The difference in thinking ‘I can do it” to ‘I can’t do it” is but a few letters.

You may wish to blame a whole bunch of people for confirming in your mind that you are unable to achieve something. You could blame your teachers who always told you that you were useless. Then you could blame your friends for laughing at you, or your parents because they never had time for you.

You need to halt and completely eliminate those attitudes that may stop you from believing in yourself. You have the power to influence your belief system and help you to stay positive in what you can achieve. For this reason, it would be most beneficial for you to believe in success.

The best Way to combat negative self talk and build positive reinforcement is through the use of affirmations in your own life. What are Affirmations? They are those little positive dialog sets that we say to ourselves and visualize how these sayings can affect us in our everyday lives.

How To, the 101 of Affirmation sets

(1) Determine your goals

(2) Compile an action plan and create your affirmations to go with your goals. There are many ways to keep your affirmations top of mind. Here are some good ways to practice and work your affirmations to make sure they are effective.

Review your affirmations at least three times a day. First thing in the morning as you wake up is an excellent time then about mid-day and once shortly before going to sleep. Use any down time as well.

Use the time while you stand in line, or waiting at the dentist or sitting in traffic. Every moment you have to yourself get in the habit of working through all of your affirmations.

In addition to your audio phrase repetition, you want to bring in the visual aspect as well. View your hand written flash cards, watch your prepared PowerPoint presentation, play the video and spend a few minutes to visualize the experience of having attained your goals. If you are not near your digital presentations then just use your cards.

Add everything possible to this experience. Imagine the sounds, the smells, the feeling of the metal of your new car or the texture of the plants in your new garden. Visualize a picture of your vacation, arriving at the airport, taking a cab to your hotel, running on the beach, splashing in the surf.

Don’t just see the scene though, see yourself in the scene. You need to be in the picture, taking part and enjoying all that this experience is providing you with. Add all the elements of your senses from smells to touch, hearing, vision and taste.

You may also wish to have more visual triggers scattered around. Use index cards or make post card sized cards. Add your keywords onto these and maybe a small graphic or picture to liven it up. Put these cards up where ever you might spend time.

Place a card next to the kettle, on the fridge door, next to your tooth brush, on your work desk or computer monitor. Keep some in your car, tuck them into your purse or wallet. Your shirt pocket can take some, the umbrella stand. Put them where you will be reminded again and again.

If you are on the move, most of the day due to work or family commitments, then make a recording of your affirmation so that you can play this back on your MP3 player or a smart phone. You can get your friends and family to record congratulations and words of encouragement to go with your affirmations.

Create a screen saver with your affirmations and show it on your computer to remind you. You can even create a collage of your affirmations and use this as your new desktop scene. Be inventive and creative as to how you make new triggers for yourself so that your affirmations are in your mind.

By constantly engaging yourselves in affirmations, you build self confidence and positive reinforcement beliefs that can help to combat negative belief views and make you a more successful person in many areas of your life.

Have you been searching or do you really know your Personal Life Purpose? So many of us just coast through life like sands through an hour glass. There is more to you than that. This is why it is equally important on the things that would make us live a very meaningful and abundant life. With things being more hectic in this life than even our ancestors, it’s important to put things in perspective.

You will wonder how to find it. It’s been passing you by for many years. What will enable you to find it now? Some effort will be required, that’s for sure, but above all else you will need to stop being afraid.

One of the most common thoughts that will crop up as you try and find your own purpose is the statement that you can’t do that. You can’t leave your job, you can’t study again in fact you can’t leave the life you are living right now.

That is a perfectly normal way to think. Your life is a series of instances where you have to weigh up your options. You have to decide many times whether you should take the safe route or whether you should put yourself at risk.

As a young person you are more inclined to take the risk option. Leaving home to go to college in another State seems like a fun thing to do. It involves stepping out of your comfort zone as you have to leave your support system behind. It’s an adventure though when you are young.

That is not that easy to do as you grow older. Everything you surround yourself with is important in that it makes you feel secure and safe. You have the same friends, you take the same route to work, you spend your evenings at the pub down the road, you go on vacation to the same seaside resort.

Yet this very sameness lulls you into a false sense of security and seduces you into thinking that this is the ideal life. It therefore surprises you when you feel that bit of dissatisfaction within. Where did that come from you wonder? After all you are so lucky to have this wonderful life especially in comparison to how many people have to live.

This way of cocooning yourself is what makes it so difficult to work out what your life purpose is. You know instinctively that whatever it is, will require you to change if you want to follow your purpose. Things will not be the same again.

From a young age society has conditioned you to take the safe route. Go to school, do well so that you can go to college, get a safe qualification so you can be an accountant, lawyer, doctor or teacher and find a stable job because this will take care of you for the rest of your life.

The thought of leaving this comfort zone behind and trying to establish what you really would like to do is very frightening. Finding the courage to explore what your life purpose is could be is the first step towards finding your passion for life.

You must expand on this safe or comfort zone or it will continue to constrict your life allowing you to live the ‘safe’ yet not totally fulfilling life that you want. You want to ultimately make those changes that you know you are capable of metamorphosis into the person that you always know you could be.

Are you really fulfilled and have a real sense of purpose in your Life?

How do you know whether you are living according to your life purpose statement? If you don’t know what your life purpose is, how can you possible live on purpose? So either way it isn’t easy to work out how your life is going.

Let’s try some questions. If you answer no to any one, or possibly even all, of these questions you might not be living according to your life purpose.

This one is an easy one. Do you wake up in the morning excited to start the day, every day, not just week-ends or on your days off?

How about. Do you love your work and is it a career for you or a burden?

Do you often read a book or article online because it is interesting and will enrich your life and could possibly increase your knowledge for your work?

Here are a few that you might want to answer yes to and id you so might just realise you are not be on purpose.

Do you often find yourself eating because it makes you feel good, and it helps you cope better with the day? Does that mean you are overweight?

Do you look forward to your drink in the evening because it’s the only time during the day you can feel relaxed and happy?

Are you constantly looking to make more money so that you can do something else, although you have no idea what you might want to do?

How do you answer to this one. Are you and your credit card best buddies? Do you binge shop regularly and have a cupboard full of clothes which you have only worn once, if at all?

Do you long to go on a romantic cruise because it could let you meet up with the man of your dreams?

You’re in a loving relationship but you like to look at good looking people and speculate what it would be like to have an affair with them because there’s no harm in having some fantasies?

When you go on holiday to another city and especially if traveling outside your country do you wish you could live there because things could be so much more exciting, or settled, or interesting, or lucrative?

You would love to buy a new car because you know it will make you feel great to be able to show off to other people that you’ve made it.

You live in the wrong suburb. If you could move to the one on the other side of the park it would be so much nicer. And the houses are much bigger.

So how did you go with all of these questions? Some might have made you laugh, some might have got you thinking a little. In each case there could have been a slight niggle that made you realise that you are doing a whole bunch of things to try and make yourself feel happier. These would be external things to make the internal happier and mostly they just don’t work.

Remember none of the above questions show that you are doing anything wrong. That’s not the point of the exercise. It was just for you to reflect on whether there are things you might be doing on a daily basis that make you feel better about yourself because you are not doing what makes you happy.

“I Want my MTV”, how many of you actually remember that infamous video? We have become a generation where TV has become the baby sitter that has replaced the parental unit. This is no more evident than in the hilarious comedy, ‘The Cable Guy’, that hammers home the point. TV has a way of suspending us in an almost passive reality where the TV does the thinking for us. In my own research, I’ve found that I average anywhere between 1-3 hours of TV daily. That is down from about 3-5 hours of TV daily. What’s your daily television viewership? This can put some perspective back into your life.

Turn off the TV, get animated

Instead of getting TV to tell you how to think and sucking you into it’s world, turn it off and do an alternative form of exercise or hobby. There are many more ways for you to become a lot more productive in your day. When we realize how much time TV actually sucks away from us, we can attack the issue of unproductive time. The point is to actually become active and do something congruent to make you more useful.

From my last few months of research, I’ve identified that watching too much television as my main productivity killer. Obviously, not everyone will have the same productivity killers in their day. The important point is to identify where you are losing productive time throughout your day. You should map out your day and action those items. Make sure at least a few of these tasks will incrementally make you more successful. You may want to read my last post, “Procrastinate No More!” to help you become more animated.

Why People Gravitate to TV

According to Nielsen Media Research, the average American watches at least 4 hours of television a day, that equates to about 28 hours in a week or to about 2 months (60 days) of non-stop TV watching per year. Take into account, many people watch anywhere between 5 -10 hours per day! The biggest reason that people watch TV is enjoyment and entertainment. However, they are many that watch TV mindlessly out of sheer boredom. You must find a balance in your life that keeps you productive. If you are unemployed and watch say 5 hours or more of TV in day, you have a priority problem. Get organized and do something productive.

TV costs you more than you Think

Too much TV watching costs you more than you think, not only do you lose productivity, they are also quite a few negatives. Here are a few:

Gaining Extra Weight. Many people have become overweight and even obese through too much TV. It has just about become a national and even global epidemic. Better to have put that time in a gym or exercise to get and stay healthy.

Unhealthy Eating. It’s no secret that many people eat a lot of unhealthy things when watching TV. Chips and Dip, Pizza, Bon Bons, Soda, BBQ wings, fast food and many other foods are devoured without thought while on the tube.

Learning Difficulty. There have been many studies that suggest that TV takes away from people’s core development and motor skills. Here’s a disturbing fact: students with television sets in their bedrooms score significantly lower than those who don’t Any wonder why some kids are failing their FCAT, MCAT and some of the other acronym fortified tests out there?

TV eats up your time. I’ve harped quite a bit on this in the first part of this article, enough said.

TV Addiction. They are increasingly more and more addicts that have replaced good old recreational activities with video games and TV. 8-10 hours daily on the TV can be the norm to feed their addiction.

Inactivity / Sedentary Lifestyle of Laziness. Remember watching TV is a passive habit. You are sitting usually on a couch, remote in hand and one hand eating pizza. Getting up and going is the cure.

Violence increase. There is almost a direct correlation between those that are more violent and watching violence on TV. Watching Violet Content can increase violent tendencies as much as 5 times according one study.

Attention Problems. We live in a society of ADD and ADHD disorders coupled with children falling asleep in class because of too much TV. Need I say more?

Use TV as a Reward

To make the most of your TV viewing, use it as a reward. Also, look at the TV guide before even watching TV and know exactly what programming to watch. Once done, get in the habit of turning off the TV instead of channel surfing. Try to limit your TV viewing to 1-3 Hours max per day and you will see a productive boost in your life.

I hope you enjoyed this post and look forward to your opinions on Television viewing.

If you read my last post on ‘The Change Within’, this blog post goes hand in hand with that one. You see confidence is important and can be seen as a deal maker or deal breaker. Confidence is a very important quality to have if you want to position yourself in an authoritative position or as simply a tool to attract others to you. A person that has confidence with what they do and how they are perceived by others is a powerful thing. It’s almost like people have a sixth sense in determining that someone is portraying a level of confidence to them. Remember it’s all about how you are perceived by someone that is the most important. Ever heard the saying, “You have one chance to make a first impression”?

Confidence can be invoked or ‘generated’ from within

The really interesting thing about confidence is that it is very much a mental state more than a physical state. What do I mean by this? Well, for one, you just have to make the right change mind wise in order to exude confidence from yourself. Others pickup on it and are at a very fundamental level attracted to it. You see, inherently, people want others as a leader if they have no leadership qualities of their own. Break it down now, how many people do you know are in a leadership role or portray leadership qualities? My guess is that you probably know a lot more followers than those capable of leading. The good news is that you can invoke or generate confidence from within. It truly is a mental state of being. You don’t even have to have been born with it; isn’t that awesome?

A few ways of developing Confidence

Here are a few quick ways of developing your own personal confidence:

Become an expert in something

Never stop Learning

Take an Etiquette Class

Practice confidence daily and really feel it

Speak with Authority and a tone that holds some masculinity properties

Read more on the subject of Confidence Development

Once you are in a position where you exude and portray a high level of confidence, certain doors and opportunities will start to open. Thing is, you must be ready to take advantage of these opportunities afforded to you. A confident person knows how to ‘see’ opportunity available to them and take the action to pounce on it. This develops even more confidence within that person. Is it any wonder why highly successful people such as Tony Robbins, John Assaraf, Jay Conrad Levinson, Michael Gruber, Dr. Joe Vitale and many others are also seen as confident people as well. They have a level of Financial Freedom that many of us can only dream of. You can achieve anything that anyone else has achieved. Remember, Success leaves clues. Over to you, what do are your thoughts of the subject of confidence building? Please feel free to re-tweet or share this post on your social media community.
