Reasons to Give Thanks

I believe that if you have change in your pocket, healthy and you feel alive, you’ve got the world to be thankful for.

If you aren’t entirely thankful for everything in your life, it’s time to take a step back, push away the turkey for a while and really come to meaningful terms on why it’s so important to have an attitude of gratitude this season.

For most, the season of thanksgiving has become more of a commercial spectacle than what it was originally meant for.

You know, the huge turkey feasts with elaborate parades and then a shop till you drop marathon on the following Black Friday. It’s so much more than that though, it should really be a time for reflection and just really hitting home on the things that make you a better overall person.

Things like the meaningful relationships of family, a loving spouse and children, a job that brings in income, a roof over your head, the chance to make a meaning in others lives, philanthropy, health and the long list could go on indefinitely.

It’s time to give the things to be thankful for a breath, make them have more meaning for you – being happy in the now.

That’s an important point that i’d like to really harp on. I read Marci Shimof’s book a few years back called Happy for No Reason and it really made a difference in my life. It’s about finding that inner peace and happiness within little moments of your life. If you don’t know Marci, she was one of the featured experts on the phenomenon – The Secret. So, do yourself a favour and get this book and read it, study it and practice it.

I’ll also implore that you start having gratitude as you go along your daily life, it’s important to be grateful for the little things, a child’s smile, a pencil that you can write with, a bottle of water in front of you, a thank you from someone. All these little things add up when you show that you are grateful for them, not to mention the funny thing is – you’ll attract more abundance this way.

While you’re at it, why not take a 15 day gratitude challenge with me? If you’re keen, here’s what you do. Simply go down to your favorite store (Walmart, CVS e.t.c) and buy a small pocket sized notebook and say a pencil with a clip (this will clip on to the notebook so always available).

Once you have the notebook, for 15 straight days, write down everything you come in contact with that you are truly thankful for (breakfast, water, a kiss on the cheek e.t.c.) . Number each page as a day in your notebook, e.g. Day 1, Day 2 and so on.

After 15 days, you will truly see all that you should be thankful for and spread your gratitude by sharing your results with others! You’ll start to see and ultimately become a better person overall.
